I'll Be Happy When......
27 August 2010
Emotions are very important for growth. When we are in a state of sadness for example, and can examine why, we are in a powerful position to grow, learn and make improvements. Looking at the emotional state we are in, and understanding it, is the important step here. Avoiding the emotional state leads to suppressing problems that will then become recurring.
Once you have an understanding of the deeper issues, you are then in a position to move forward and release the negative state; so the more you use your emotions to make positive life changes the more space you will have in your life for positive emotions like happiness.
So when someone says to me ‘I’ll be happy when….’ I say take happiness whenever you can get it because it will always be there between the other emotions. Learn to recognise when you are happy and really enjoy those moments. Learn what has made you happy in that moment and really understand it. You can then look for more of those moments and will know how to filter them in. The more you focus on them, the more you will filter in similar situations and increase happiness in your life.
The steps then are to:
- Look at your negative emotions as if from the third person
- Understand what you need to learn from them
- Let them pass
- Enjoy the extending moments of happiness in between – with gratitude!
